Welcome
Built circa 1880’s, on the former Miami Indian Reserve, the 5,000 sq.ft. farm house; had fallen into disrepair over several years. It is currently owned by Shawn Christopher Clements and is undergoing restoration. Mr. Dunham served the Democratic Party for several years and represented Hamilton and Tipton County in the Indiana General House of Assembly. The home, which he built, still stands on the original Dunham land which his grandfather, Jacob Dunham owned in the 1840’s.

Local legend has it that President Grover Cleveland visited the home and was an acquaintance of William Riley Dunham. In fact, Mr. Dunham had a son named Dr. Grover Cleveland Dunham who practiced medicine in Tipton and Clinton County, Indiana.

Another political figure who has visited the Dunham house is President Barack Obama. He and his family came to see the home and land of his ancestors. Three generations of President Obama’s forefathers either owned, lived, married, or are laid to rest here. His visit certainly brings the past together with the future.

The purpose of this site is hopefully to bring about awareness of the importance of historical restoration. The Dunham house is an ongoing project and we invite you to visit often to view the progress.
